A small, humble creature with an endearing round shape and excellent digging skills, they possess an innate ability to unearth hidden treasures beneath the surface.
Little did I know, the creation of this simple wooden wombat, which was made for my nephew when he was born, would be the beginning of a new chapter in my love for woodworking and become the driving force behind Unearthed Studio’s vision.
It’s been well over a decade since my passion and connection to woodwork began, drawn to the sense of calm and meditative presence the process brings. Over time, as my skills developed and designs evolved, there became a tipping point where this internal drive for precision and perfectionism overshadowed my enjoyment for the craft, draining the creative inspiration that made this my sanctuary space.
It wasn’t until I discovered the nature of free-flow wood carving that I felt truly connected to the process. Not working to plans, square edges, or measurements; letting the wood find me in its raw, natural form and allowing the process to organically take shape. Surrendering to this intuitive style, embracing the natural imperfections of the wood, and finding beauty in the hand-made textures and details.
Similarly, Unearthed Studio will draw upon this approach, finding a balance between planning for future projects while simultaneously embracing inspirations that emerge along the way.
